Gutter & Eavestrough Repair FAQ

Gutter & Eavestrough Repair FAQ

Stop leaks and prevent corrosion with Liquid Rubber. Whether you are sealing leaky seams or protecting metal from rust, our coatings provide a flexible, seamless membrane that stands up to standing water and debris.

Product Selection & Project Planning

  • Which product should I use for my gutters?
  • How much do I need? We recommend 3 generous coats for gutters. The coverage rate is 1 gallon per 20 sq ft (1.9 sq/m). Example: For 40 sq ft of gutter surface area, you will need 2 gallons (40 Ă· 20 = 2).
  • Do I need a primer? While primer is generally recommended for the best bond, it is often skipped for standard gutters. Exception: If you have an EPDM liner, you must use EPDM & TPO Primer first.
  • Do I need Seam Tape or Geo-Textile? Yes. We highly recommend using Seam Tape or Geo-Textile to reinforce joints, seams, and cracks against thermal expansion.

Surface Compatibility & Prep

  • Can I apply this to Metal, Aluminum, or Galvanized Metal? Yes. Liquid Rubber bonds excellently to these surfaces. For aluminum and galvanized metal, ensure the surface is clean and free of oils.
  • Can I apply this over Fiberglass or Concrete?
    • Fiberglass: Yes. Scuff sand to remove the gloss, clean, and apply Multipurpose Primer.
    • Concrete: Ensure it is cured and dry (under 5% moisture). Use Concrete Etch and Multipurpose Primer.
  • Can I coat over old paint or existing coatings? Yes, most acrylic, polyurethane, or epoxy paints are compatible. However, you must remove coal tar, oil-based, or high-solvent coatings as they will interfere with the bond.

Application Tips

  • What tools do I need? Use standard paint brushes with nylon bristles or a 3/8" microfiber roller.
  • How do I save my tools between coats? Wrap your brush or roller in a plastic bag to slow the curing process; this allows you to reuse the same tool for your next coat.
