RV Roof Coating & Repair FAQ

RV, Camper & Trailer Roof FAQ

Protect your home on the road with the industry-leading Liquid Rubber RV Roof System. Our high-reflectance white coating reduces cooling costs while providing a seamless, 10-year warranted barrier against leaks.

Step 1: Identify Your Roof Type

Before ordering, you must determine your roof material to select the correct primer:

  • EPDM: Smooth and rubbery; white on top with a black bottom layer.
  • TPO: Textured and "plasticky" feel; usually the same color throughout.
  • Fiberglass: Hard, smooth gel-coat surface.
  • Metal/Aluminum: Looks and feels like a standard metal surface.
  • PVC/Vinyl: Smooth and "plasticky"; consistent color top and bottom.

Product Selection & Planning

  • Which products do I need? For a complete restoration, you will use RV Roof Coating, RV Smart Cleaner, and Seam Tape.
  • Do I need a primer? Yes. Primer is critical for RVs.
  • How much should I buy? Our RV Roof Kit Builder calculates your needs based on RV length. Standard coverage is 1 gallon per 50 sq ft for the final membrane thickness.
  • Why is it only available in White? White provides maximum UV reflection, which significantly lowers interior temperatures and prevents the roof from expanding/contracting (the leading cause of leaks).

Seams, Vents & Repairs

  • Should I use Seam Tape or Lap Sealant? Use Seam Tape for most seams and vents as it provides a permanent waterproof bridge. Use RV Lap Sealant for maintenance over old sealant or around tricky areas like ladders and solar panels.
  • Can I coat over Dicor or Eternabond?
    • Dicor/Lap Sealants: Yes, if they are well-cured and cleaned. Remove silicone-based sealants first as they will not bond.
    • Eternabond: Yes. You must scuff the tape surface and use EPDM & TPO Primer to ensure adhesion.
  • What about old coatings? You can coat over most acrylics/polyurethanes with Multipurpose Primer. However, if your RV has a Silicone Coating, you must use our Silicone Roof Coating.

✅ Project Checklist: RV Roof Essentials

Item Why You Need It
