Driveway Restore Asphalt Sealant

The first step is to determine your surface and ensure compatibility. Liquid Rubber Driveway Restore is formulated for asphalt driveways, pathways, parking lots and roadways.

Inspect Your Asphalt: Improperly prepared surfaces can result in the reduction of the service life and performance of the membrane coating. Your surface should be sound & free of dirt, water, and loose debris. Make repairs as necessary before sealing. Cracks can be repaired with Liquid Rubber Asphalt Crack Filler and pits and potholes can be repaired with Liquid Rubber Asphalt Patch. • Remove all loose asphalt (create as clean and strong an edge as possible), soils and vegetation.
• Clean entire surface with Liquid Rubber Deck & Patio Cleaner (pressure washer is best).
• Allow to dry completely.

FOR POTHOLE REPAIR: For pitting, spalling, and small potholes over 12mm (½”)

1. Loosen material in pail with a putty knife, garden shovel or other appropriate tool.
2. Fill pothole, crack or pitted area evenly and slightly proud (above) the surface (approximately 1/8" - 1/4" depending on the depth of the repair).
3. For potholes deeper than 2", allow 24 hours between each application depth of 2"
4. Use the putty knife, garden shovel, or other appropriate tool to scrape off excess material and expose the edges of the repair.
5. Add additional material to fill low spots and re-tamp if necessary. (Product may still be pliable but should be fairly solid after tamping).
6. Do not park on newly repaired potholes for 24-48 hours.
7. Wait 24 hours before coating with Liquid Rubber Driveway Restore.

FOR CRACK REPAIR: For cracks over 2 mm (1/8”) - 12.5mm (½”) 

1. When crack is clean and dry, use a utility knife/scissors to cut open tube of Asphalt Crack Filler at a similar width to the crack, seam or joint.
2. Puncture the inner seal of the tube with a nail, pin or tool on the caulking gun. (Be sure to puncture several times to ensure product flows freely).
3. Place the tube in the caulking gun and squeeze the trigger.
4. Fill the crack, joint or seam by evenly distributing the product. Liquid Rubber Asphalt Crack Filler is self leveling and will flow into the crack or seam. (Asphalt Crack Filler is self levelling. For extremely sloped driveways, use Liquid Rubber sealant and Adhesive instead to fill cracks.).
5. Allow 24 hours to dry before coating with Liquid Rubber Driveway Restore.

**Use Driveway Restore to fill cracks smaller than 1/8" as outlined below

Fill all voids or cracks under 2 mm (1/8”) with a detail coat of Liquid Rubber Driveway Restore using a brush. Be sure to work the material into the cracks by brushing across the crack several times to force out air. You will also want to spread out (feather) excessive material around the crack so it does not show through the Driveway Restore Sealer.

Once your preparation is complete you can begin your full field application. 

1. Mask off any areas you don’t wish to be coated (ie. curbs, sidewalks, steps etc.).
2. Coat the edges of the asphalt driveway approximately 6-12" wide using a brush.
3. Using a wide roller or foam squeegee, apply a thick coat to the surface of the Driveway.
4. Wait 12 hours, or until the first coat is dry to apply the second coat perpendicular (opposite) to the first coat.
5. Before applying final coat, inspect for pinholes, blisters or thin areas and repair as necessary before applying final coat.
6. Recommended coverage can be found by using our calculator or contacting Liquid Rubber Product & Application Support. Use all recommended material; approximately 2-3 coats.
7. Ensure 48-72 hours of dry weather before allowing vehicle traffic. (Dry times will be extended in colder temperatures or in high humidity.)
8. After final inspection, use Liquid Rubber Asphalt Crack Filler to seal where the garage meets the driveway and where the driveway meets a sidewalk or curb to prevent water ingress in these areas.

*Dry times will vary depending on temperature, humidity and airflow. AFTER CARE: Clean the cured surface with a mild cleaner like Liquid Rubber Deck & Patio Cleaner. Heavy duty cleaners and degreasers can cause discoloration. Test an inconspicuous area first.

• Apply in dry, warm temperatures 
• Between 10°C/50°F and 30°C/86°F, including overnight temperatures 
• Do not apply in wet conditions or if rain, fog or dew is forecasted within 24 hours 
• Environment should be below 80% humidity 
• Avoid applying in hot, intense, direct sunlight (sealant will cure too fast) 
• Make sure what you’re coating is at least 5 degrees above the dew point of the environment (Click here for more info)

Stay organized and limit clean up by following these setup tips: 

1. Set out a tarp or large piece of cardboard to keep containers and tools on when not in use.
2. Make sure you have mineral oil/baby oil, rags, a scraper, and odorless mineral spirits on hand, so you are ready if a spillage occurs.*
3. Clean skin immediately with mineral oil/baby oil.
4. Spills on surfaces should be cleaned immediately with mineral spirits (sparingly) or baby oil to weaken surface.
5.  If the spillage dries, scrape it off with a razor/scraper/etc and use a wire brush to remove then clean with rags.
6. Refer to the product Safety Data Sheet for personal protective equipment recommendations.

*Test inconspicuous area first to ensure no discoloration on surface Warning: Mineral spirits can spread stain. Use sparingly

• Use disposable gloves.
• Do not let unused material in the pail freeze.
• Store above 10°C/50°F.
• Reseal Asphalt Patch bag after use to extend shelf life up to 12 months.
• For best results, remove existing coatings (some coatings will not be compatible). 
• Remove painters tape while coating is still wet. Reapply for each coat.
• Asphalt Patch can be applied in all temperatures and climates.
• Apply final coat in the direction of slope for positive drainage.
• Avoid using heavy duty cleaners, degreasers or driveway washing products on the cured coating, as it may discolor the surface. This is only a visual issue and does not affect the performance of the cured coating. We recommend using our Liquid Rubber Deck & Patio Cleaner to clean the surface.
• Wrap brushes in plastic to use for the next coat.
