About Liquid Ice Melt - Pre-Treatment

Liquid Ice Melt Spray

Waking up to ice bonded to your steps means chipping, salting, and hoping you don't slip before coffee. Liquid Ice Melt stops that problem before it starts.

Liquid Rubber Liquid Ice Melt is a magnesium chloride formula that sprays on dry pavement and stops ice and snow from bonding to the surface in the first place. It's effective down to -85°F (-65°C). Ready to use straight from the bottle, no mixing, no dilution. Spray it on concrete, sealed and painted wood, composite decking, painted metal stair treads, and pavers. Not recommended for concrete less than a year old.

As a liquid spray, application is simple: spray it evenly over dry pavement before precipitation hits using a boom or backpack sprayer. One gallon covers approximately 1,000 sq ft. Avoid over-applying to the point of pooling. Already got snow or ice? Shovel it off first, then reapply.

The surface will appear wet for about 20 minutes to an hour after applying, that's normal and doesn't mean it's stopped working. It stays effective for 3-5 days and should be reapplied before any major snow or rain.

Liquid Rubber Liquid Ice Melt is safer for pets and vegetation than traditional rock salt. Avoid over-application, and don't let melting snow pile up where it'll run off onto grass or near trees and shrubs. As with any ice melt, it's always best practice to rinse your pet's paws after a walk and keep them from eating it.

How to use Liquid Ice Melt

Essential Resources for Your Project

  • Do I need the liquid or the granular version of Ice Melt?

Liquid is for pre-treating before a storm hits, best for stairs, decks, and smaller high-traffic spots, and it works at a lower temperature than granular, down to -85°F (-65°C) versus -31°F (-35°C). Granular works for prevention too, but it's also built to melt through ice and snow that's already there, on bigger areas like driveways and walkways. If you want to spray ahead of the forecast on a smaller space or need performance in extreme cold, go liquid. If you need something for larger surfaces or ice that's already down, granular is the one.

  • Is Liquid Ice Melt safe for my pets?

Liquid Ice Melt is safer for pets and vegetation when used as directed. Still, it's always best practice to rinse your pet's paws after a walk and keep them from eating it directly off the ground whenever any product like this is around.

  • How is Liquid Ice Melt applied?

With a sprayer, not by spreading or sprinkling. Use a fan or misting nozzle and spray evenly over dry pavement. Spray it on dry pavement before precipitation hits, ideally the day before a storm. Reapply every 3-5 days before the next round of snow or rain. If snow or ice has already accumulated, shovel it off first, then reapply.

  • Will Liquid Ice Melt actually work in the cold I get here?

Yes. Liquid Ice Melt is effective down to -85°F (-65°C), even lower than the granular version.
